How to Delete a Category in QuickBooks Online

Introduction

In QuickBooks Online, categories are used to organize and track your income and expenses. However, you may occasionally need to delete a category that is no longer relevant or needed. This guide will walk you through the steps to delete a category in QuickBooks Online.

Steps to Resolve:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.

  2. From the left navigation menu, click on "Accounting" and then select "Chart of Accounts."

  3. In the Chart of Accounts page, locate the category you want to delete.

  4. Click on the category name to open its details.

  5. In the category details page, click on the "Edit" button.

  6. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the "Delete" button.

  7. QuickBooks Online will ask you to confirm the deletion. Read the warning message carefully, as deleting a category will permanently remove it from your records and may affect your historical data.

  8. If you still want to proceed with the deletion, type "DELETE" in uppercase letters in the confirmation box.

  9. Click on the "Yes, delete it!" button to confirm and delete the category.

After following these steps, the category will be deleted from your QuickBooks Online account, and it will no longer appear in your Chart of Accounts or be available for selection in transactions. Ensure that you carefully consider the impact of deleting a category before proceeding, as it may affect your historical data and reporting.
